I was suppossed to be scanning picture of something else totally different when I found my negatives of my grandfather when we took him back to the Cefn Coed colleriy where he once worked, that has been converted into a museum. The photo was taken before 1987 (as a picture taken on the same strip of negs was of my flat in Newcastle, where is the exif data on a neg?) With the news of the mining disaster in Gleison the week before last still fresh in the news I found out that Grampy's mine was just the other side of the hill to Gleison. On Cefn Coed's museum's website this quote punched me between the eyes 'Cefn Coed was one of the most dangerous coalmines in Wales, gaining the nickname ‘The Slaughterhouse’. ' The picture was taken from the back of an old boiler while my older sister, mother and grandfather looked in to the chamber of the boiler.
